Klaehne continued, “However, in Q1 2019 we are seeing sales weaken for the device. Consumers who have older devices are looking for alternatives to the flagships that cost more than US$800 currently offered.” In addition, over 70% of previous Apple users had an iPhone 7, iPhone 6, or older. Many users upgraded their older Samsung J2 Prime and Galaxy S7 phones. When the 6T was announced for T-Mobile, at a sub-US$600 price point, consumers flocked to the device. Starting with the OnePlus One, the brand has promised consumers solid performance for a lower price than the available Samsung and Apple flagships. This is probably seen as a disappointment.”Įlaborating on the OnePlus 6T, Maurice Klaehne, Research Analyst at Counterpoint Research added, “The OnePlus brand has been a great disrupter in the industry and is a well-known brand for many tech enthusiasts. Over 80% of volumes are coming from its Android partners. The Pixel was built to lead Android innovation and be a device to sway the iOS base over to Android. A total of 31% of Pixel 3 sales came from previous Samsung Galaxy S7 owners. Over half of all new Pixel 3 owners came from Samsung. Google invested a lot of marketing money during Q4 2018 resulting in strong sales of the Google Pixel 3 lineup. Speaking about the Pixel smartphones, Jeff Fieldhack, Research Director at Counterpoint Research said, “The newest Google Pixel lineup was certainly successful in terms of disrupting the premium market space at Verizon. Source: Counterpoint Research – Smartphone Churn Tracker Q4 2018 Conversely, 6T sales have been down Q1 2019 in spite of the strong Q4 2018 start. Each device signaled an appetite for more diversity in premium device product line-ups from consumers.ĭespite the initial sales success, the Pixel 3 series has been ineffective in converting a larger share of iPhone users to Android. In Q4 2018, Google Pixel accounted for 7.3% of Verizon’s total sales while the OnePlus 6T made up 2.4% of T-Mobile’s total sales. Less than one in five people who bought either device was a previous Apple user. Over one-third of consumers who bought the Google Pixel 3 and the OnePlus 6T, during Q4 2018, were previous Samsung owners, according to Counterpoint Research’s US Smartphone Churn Tracker. San Diego, Buenos Aires, London, New Delhi, Hong Kong, Beijing, Seoul Over 80% of Pixel 3’s volumes are coming from previous Android smartphone owners. And if they CAN'T come up with something, they can just stick to the mass combat with that upgrade in their back pocket. Both the devices have failed to swing iOS users over to Android. If that isn't enough time to think about the story, plus the last decade plus, I don't think they ever will. It was always a Portal/HL crossover, but it took three years to even HINT at it. The third would have to be that GladOS send Peabody and Atlas over to investigate with a few people at a time. A train goes there, turns out they were ALSO thinking with portals and there are several walls and such with the moon paint on it. The first DLC would be new rooms, new gel, and being able to earn a portable harness for the PRC (plus some new colors and hats or something. I think each player would have a self created character, and a self created personal representative core that keeps track of progress and connects the players together. I would imagine GladOS is involved, probably giving out meaningless points, flipping platforms, and tossing out snark. Just a selection of standard rooms with a dozen players, either on teams or individually, trying to kill the other players by throwing down portals that either pitch the other players into death or throwing down gel that gets them killed. The obvious answer is Portal:Mass combat. It's hard to believe, because the stories and characters Valve gives us are so good, but that's not their main focus. Which means the next "HL:A like" would be pretty insane. The first game is like a draft, and the second learns from it to make that idea as best it can. Some make the joke about not being able to count to 3, but it's pretty understandable. I'm not saying you can't make a portal game on Source 2, but it's not the best way to use the tool. Source 2, according to what I've heard, was made to move away from exactly that, so maps wouldn't be collages of simple geometry and models, but essentially just models, or "Vertex Soup" as they call it. Portals like flat surfaces, which Source was all about, probably why CSGO isn't being rushed onto the new engine as it really benefits from simple geometry. Portal 2 had 2 player mode, and easy mapping for the communityĪlso Valve is moving to Source 2, which I think won't work well for another Portal game. Portal had portals, sometimes my genius astonishes me. What do you want from Portal 3? What new ideas make you want the next game? The difficulty in making a new valve game, is it has to bring something new to the table.
